I grew up in the Irish dance world. Dancing from age 7 to about 17. Long enough that I an still whip out an ok "step down the line" at an Irish wedding. Yet when my youngest started to dance, I realized that SO much had changed. I needed to know how to put in a wiglet, tape dance shoes, and so much more! I joined up at the same time as an amazing group of moms. We helped each other figure it out by just sort of muddling our way through it. Our own little dance village. As we advance through the levels I now lend my help to the new beginner parents just starting out where I can. Our classes do not always overlap but I know they have so many questions and have been told that they just feel silly asking. "It seems like all the other parents already know how to do everything." Believe me - we do not!

As I was lacing a pair of shoes for a beginner mom one day - the idea hit me. What if parents had a place to go where they could look all of this information up? From how to tie shoes to packing for competition and beyond. No need to feel intimidated or silly. A place for the overwhelmed or just plain curious dance parent to find the answers they are looking for!

 

 

My hope for The Blackbird is to be something of a "go-to" for parents to get answers from another dance moms perspective. A place to learn and have fun together! (What you will not find here is info you need to get from your dance teacher. I am not a TCRG and do not pretend to be. I cannot explain how moves are done or who gets to compete or when you can get a solo dress. etc. There are certain things that can ONLY come from the dance teacher and I intend to honor that.)
